إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ وَمَلَـٰٓئِكَتَهُۥ يُصَلُّونَ عَلَى ٱلنَّبِىِّ ۚ يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ صَلُّوا۟ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلِّمُوا۟ تَسْلِيمًا
Innallaha Wa Malaikatahu in English
Here is the English transliteration: Inna Allāha wa malāikatahu yuṣallūna ʿala an-nabī. Yā ayyuhalladhīna āmanū ṣallū ʿalayhi wa sallimū taslīma.
Innallaha Wa Malaikatahu Meaning
Indeed, Allah showers His blessings upon the Prophet, and His angels pray for him. O believers! Invoke Allah’s blessings upon him, and salute him with worthy greetings of peace.
In this verse of Surah Al-Azhab, the Quran is saying that Allah and his angel send blessings upon the Holy Prophet (PBUH). The second line orders the believers to do the same to get Allah’s closeness.
The Holy Prophet (PBUH) also asked his companions to send blessings upon him. Various Hadiths are transmitting a similar message.
Hadiths on sending blessings on the Holy Prophet (PBUH)
Several Hadiths are transmitting similar messages with different words. The Holy Prophet (PBUH) advised his companions and believers to send blessings upon him, and whoever does not do that is stingy.
Hadith: Ali bin Abi Talib narrated that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: “The stingy person is the one before whom I am mentioned, and he does not send Salat upon me.” —Jami` at-Tirmidhi 3546
In another Hadith book, it is mentioned that whoever sends blessings upon Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Allah will send Salah upon him ten times more.
Hadith: It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that: The Prophet (PBUH) said: “Whoever sends salah upon me once, Allah (SWT) will send salah upon him tenfold.”—Sunan an-Nasa’i 1296
How to send blessings, peace and Salah upon the Holy Prophet (PBUH)?
You can recite Durood Shareef or Durood-e-Ibrahim to send blessings and peace to the Holy Prophet (PBUH).
اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ عَبْدِكَ وَرَسُولِكَ كَمَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلَىٰ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، وَبَارِكْ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ (وَعَلَىٰ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ) كَمَا بَارَكْتَ عَلَىٰ إِبْرَاهِيمَ
English transliteration: Allahumma salli ‘ala Muhammadin ‘abdika wa Rasulika kama sallayta ‘ala Ibrahima, wa barik ‘ala Muhammad (wa ‘ala ali Muhammadin) kama barakta ‘ala Ibrahima.
Translation: O Allah, send Your grace, honor and mercy upon Muhammad, Your slave and Messenger, as You sent Your (grace, honour and mercy) upon Ibrahim, and send Your blessings upon Muhammad (and the family of Muhammad) as You sent Your blessings upon Ibrahim
Hadith: It was narrated that Abu Sa’eed Al-Khudri said: “We said: ‘O Messenger of Allah! We know what it means to send greetings upon you, but what does it mean to send peace and blessings upon you?’ He said: ‘Say: “Allahumma salli ‘ala Muhammadin ‘abdika wa Rasulika kama salayta ‘ala Ibrahima, wa barik ‘ala Muhammad (wa ‘ala ali Muhammadin) kama barakta ‘ala Ibrahima.” —Sunan Ibn Majah 903
اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَىٰ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ كَمَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلَىٰ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، وَبَارِكْ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ كَمَا بَارَكْتَ عَلَىٰ آلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ فِي ٱلْعَالَمِينَ، إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ
English transliteration: Allahumma salli ‘ala Muhammadin wa ‘ala ali Muhammadin, kama sallayta ‘ala Ibrahima, wa barik ‘ala Muhammad kama barakta ‘ala ali Ibrahima fil-‘alamin, innaka Hamidun Majid.
Translation: O Allah, send salah upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad, as You sent salah upon the family of Ibrahim, and send blessings upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad as You sent blessings upon the family of Ibrahim among the nations. You are indeed Worthy of praise, Full of glory.
Hadith: It was narrated from Musa bin Talha, from his father, that: A man came to the Prophet of Allah (PBUH) and said: “How should we send blessings upon you, O Prophet of Allah?’ He said: ‘Say: Alahumma salli ‘ala Muhammad wa ‘ala ali Muhammad, kama sallaita ‘ala Ibrahima wa barik ‘ala Muhammad kama barakta ‘ala ali Ibrahim fil-‘alamin, innaka hamidun majid. —Sunan an-Nasa’i 1291
