Who wrote the Quran

We can be you have heard about the Quran and know that Muslims take religious guidance from this book. The same is the case with Christians who use the Bible for Guidance and Jews who use the Hebrew Bible (Torah).

However, you might be looking for the author of this popular book, right? This blog will discuss who wrote the Holy Quran, when it was completed, and how this sacred text has been kept unedited.

What is the Quran?

The Quran is God’s (Allah) word, a defined way for humanity to live and follow God’s word. We believe that Allah is the creator of the world and the heavens, and who can better advise us on how to live in the world than Allah? That is why we seek advice from the Quran and consider it the most sacred book on the planet.

In the Quran, Allah has given a complete way of life and his commandments, like fasting in Ramadan and covering the head.

Who wrote the Quran?

The Quran is the word of God (Allah) sent to Prophet Muhammad at the start of 610 CE. Angle Gabriel was the messenger between Allah and his Prophet (PBUH), and it took 22 years to complete the Quran.

However, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) didn’t write the Quran; instead, he memorized it, and his trusted companions were tasked to listen to the Prophet (PBUH) and write it down on leaves, bones, wood, or whatever was available at that time.

Here is how it worked: Allah sent a Surah or Verse to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). He memorized it and repeated the exact same verse to his companions. The companions wrote the verse on wood or leaf. The Prophet (PBUH) then asked them to read what they had written to eliminate any errors. That is how the Quran was written, and it took more than 22 years.

In short, the Quran is Allah’s word for mankind. It was memorized by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and written by his companion.

Who wrote the Quran if not God?

For hundreds of years, there has been a debate about the author or writer of the Quran. Some (non-believers) believe that the Quran was written by God himself, while others say it was written by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

However, we have clearly mentioned above that the Quran is the word of Allah, sent to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), who memorized it, and his companions wrote it. Therefore, it is a revelation from God himself, and the Last Prophet (PBUH) was his messenger, and the message was the Quran.

Some people still argue that who wrote the Quran for Muhammad (PBUH). They say if Muhammad (PBUH) was illiterate, then who wrote the Quran? We believe we have answered them.

Proofs on Quran as the revelation from Allah

Numerous proofs tell us that this book was not written by any human but was sent from God. Here are a few mind-bending references from the Quran, which were revealed hundreds of years ago, but science has proven it now.

Space

The Quran, Surah Al-Anbya, Verse 33 reveals that the Sun and the Moon travel in an orbit.

You can decide for yourself how anyone can know that the Sun and the Moon are traveling in an orbit in the 7th century.

Space scientists recently informed us that our universe is continuously expanding. However, the Quran also informed us about this fact 100s of years ago! The Quran says in Surah Adh-Dhariyat Verse 47, “We built the universe with ˹great˺ might, and we are certainly expanding.”

Geology

The Quran in Surah An-Naba Verse 6-7, Have We not smoothed out the earth ˹like a bed˺, and ˹made˺ the mountains as ˹its˺ pegs.”

Today, science tells us that mountains have pegs that stabilize the earth.

The Oceans

We know that there are two types of oceans: sweet and salty. However, the Quran mentioned about two different water bodies in Surah Al-Furqan Verse 53, “And He is the One Who merges the two bodies of water: one fresh and palatable and the other salty and bitter, placing between them a barrier they cannot cross.”

Today, we are told by the oceanologist that this is an unseen barrier, and they don’t know the exact reason why they don’t mix the two water mix.

Biology

The Quran claims in Surah Al-Anbya Verse 30, “Do the disbelievers not realize that the heavens and earth were ˹once˺ one mass then We split them apart? And We created from water every living thing. Will they not then believe?”

Who could have claimed in the 7th century in the deserts of Arabia that every living thing is created from water?

Botany

A few hundred years back, we didn’t know that plants are in pairs and they reproduce. However, the Quran revealed that in the 7th century in Surah Taha Verse 53, “He Who has, made for you the earth like a carpet spread out; has enabled you to go about therein by roads (and channels); and has sent down water from the sky.” With it have We produced diverse pairs of plants each separate from the others.”

Animals

The Quran says that all the animals and birds that are on the face of the planet have been created in communities like human beings. Surah Al-Anam Verse 38 says, “All living beings roaming the earth and winged birds soaring in the sky are communities like yourselves. We have left nothing out of the Record. Then to their Lord they will be gathered all together.”

Scientists recently discovered the lifestyles of animals such as lions, elephants, goats, and buffaloes that live and hunt in communities, and they showed us their videos on the Discovery channel.

The lifestyle of a spider is described in Surah Al-Ankabut Verse 41, The parable of those who take protectors other than Allah is that of a spider spinning a shelter. And the flimsiest of all shelters is certainly that of a spider, if only they knew.

The Quran speaks about the lifestyle of the Ants in Surah An-Naml, Verses 17-18, and how they can speak to each other.

There are hundreds of more examples that can be pulled from the Quran to prove it is the word of God and not written by any human.

How has the Quran been preserved and not changed over the years?

The Quran is in its original state that is because Allah has promised to guard it. Allah says in the Quran in Surah Al-Hijr Verse 9, “Indeed, it is We who sent down the Qur’an and indeed, We will be its guardian.”

Conclusion

We have provided several references from the Quran, which are enough to answer who wrote the Quran. We had pulled out relevant references from the Quranic verses related to science, zoology, and astronomy, the knowledge of which was not available in the 7th century when the Quran was revealed.

In short, no one wrote the Quran for Muhammad (PBUH) but his companion. All the verses were collected and combined together to make a book in the time of the first caliph, Abu Bakar (RA). It was made easy for non-Arabic people to read in the time of the third caliph, Usman (RA).

Nowadays, the Quran is available at every store and library in most countries. What we can do is read it and find what God has asked us to do in this world and what he has forbidden. For example, there are several harms in eating pork; still, people eat it.
