Noor is an Arabic word that means the light of God. Muslims name their sons and daughters ‘Noor’ because of this meaning, believing their son or daughter will shine like a star.

This blog will discuss the dua for Noor (light or brightness) which the Holy Prophet (PBUH) used to recite during his life. We will also shed light on the advantages of reciting this dua and whether we can use this supplication as a dua for Noor on the face.

Dua for Noor in English: Allahumma aj’al li fi qalbi nooran, wa fi lisaani nooran, wa fi sam’i nooran, wa fi basari nooran, wa min fawqi nooran, wa min tahti nooran, wa ‘an yameeni nooran, wa ‘an shimaali nooran, wa min bayni yadayya nooran, wa min khalfi nooran, waj’al fi nafsi nooran, wa a’zim li nooran.

Hadith: Kuraib reported that Ibn `Abbas spent a night in the house of the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) and he said: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) stood near the water-skin and poured water out of it and performed ablution in which he neither used excess of water nor too little of it, and the rest of the hadith is the same, and in this mention is also made (of the fact) that on that night the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) made supplication before Allah in nineteen words. Kuraib reported: I remember twelve words out of these, but have forgotten the rest. The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: Allahumma aj’al li fi qalbi nooran, wa fi lisaani nooran, wa fi sam’i nooran, wa fi basari nooran, wa min fawqi nooran, wa min tahti nooran, wa ‘an yameeni nooran, wa ‘an shimaali nooran, wa min bayni yadayya nooran, wa min khalfi nooran, waj’al fi nafsi nooran, wa a’zim li nooran. —Sahih Muslim 1797

Explanation: The Hadith states that the Holy Prophet (PBUH) prayed to Allah to lighten his heart, tongue, hearing, and eyes. So that he can spread the message of Allah in this world, especially to the non-believers.

The thing to mention here is that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) used the word Noor or Nooran to ask for a clear vision, hearing, and everything else. You can use the same dua for Noor to light your body, mind, and soul with Allah’s blessings.
