أَسْأَلُ اللَّهَ الْعَظِيمَ رَبَّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ أَنْ يَشْفِيَكَ

Dua for Sick Person in English: As’alullaahal-‘Adheema Rabbal-‘Arshil-‘Adheemi ‘an yashfiyaka. x7

Translation: I ask Allah, the Mighty, the Lord of the mighty Throne, to cure you, Allah will cure him from that disease.

Hadith: Narrated Abdullah ibn Abbas: The Prophet (PBUH) said: If anyone visits a sick whose time (of death) has not come, and says with him seven times: I ask Allah, the Mighty, the Lord of the mighty Throne, to cure you, Allah will cure him from that disease. —Sunan Abi Dawud 3106

Explanation: This Hadith has been transmitted in the following books—Hisn al-Muslim 148, Mishkat al-Masabih 1553, Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 536, and Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2083.

لَا بَأْسَ طَهُورٌ إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ

Translation: No harm will befall you. May Allah cure you!

Hadith: Narrated Ibn `Abbas: The Prophet (PBUH) paid a visit to a sick bedouin. The Prophet (PBUH) when visiting a patient used to say, “No harm will befall you! May Allah cure you! May Allah cure you!” So the Prophet (PBUH) said to the bedouin. “No harm will befall you. May Allah cure you!” The bedouin said, “You say, may Allah cure me? No, for it is a fever which boils in (the body of) an old man, and will lead him to the grave.” The Prophet (PBUH) said, “Yes, then may it be as you say.” —Sahih al-Bukhari 3616

اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّ النَّاسِ أَذْهِبِ الْبَأْسَ وَاشْفِ أَنْتَ الشَّافِي لَا شِفَاءَ إِلَّا شِفَاؤُكَ شِفَاءٌ لَا يُغَادِرُ سَقَمَا

Dua for the sick in English: Adhhibil-bas, Rabban-nas, washfi Antash-Shafi, la shifa’a illa shifa’uka shifa’an la yughadiru saqama.

Translation: Lord of the people. Remove the disease, cure him, for Thou art the great Curer, there is no cure but through Thine healing Power, which leaves nothing of the disease.

Hadith: ‘A’isha reported Allah’s Messenger (PBUH) as saying: When Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) visited the sick he would say: Lord of the people. Remove the disease, cure him, for Thou art the great Curer, there is no cure but through Thine healing Power, which leaves nothing of the disease. —Sahih Muslim Book 26, Hadith 5434

Explanation: Aisha (RA) reported that the Holy Prophet (PBUH) used to recite this dua for the sick and ill whenever he visited them. This supplication is also used in Ruqiyah.

Dua for an Ill person

The Holy Prophet (PBUH) prescribed this dua for illness, including body pain, headache, etc.

بِاسْمِ اللَّهِ x 3

أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ وَقُدْرَتِهِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا أَجِدُ وَأُحَاذِرُ x 7

Dua for Ill in English: Bismillah (x3). A’udhu billahi wa qudratihi min sharri ma ajidu wa uhadhiru (x7).

Translation: In the name of Allah (x3). I seek refuge with Allah and with His Power from the evil that I find and that I fear (x7)

Hadith: Uthman b. Abu al-‘As Al-Thaqafi reported that he made a complaint of pain to Allah’s Messenger (PBUH) that he felt in his body at the time he had become Muslim. Thereupon Allah’s Messenger (PBUH) said: Place your hand at the place where you feel pain in your body and say Bismillah three times and seven times A’udhu billahi wa qudratihi min sharri ma ajidu wa uhadhiru. —Sahih Muslim 2202

Explanation: The Holy Prophet (PBUH) used this dua for Illness himself and recommended others to recite it. One must place his right hand where they are feeling the pain. Islamic Dua for a sick person from the Quran

The only dua we found in the Holy Quran to cure illness is recited by Prophet Ayyub (PBUH). He was a wealthy man with several children. Once, he was struck with a disease which paralyzed his hands and legs. He could move his tongue, and he prayed to Allah to cure him.

أَنِّى مَسَّنِىَ ٱلضُّرُّ وَأَنتَ أَرْحَمُ ٱلرَّٰحِمِينَ

Islamic dua for a sick person in English: Anni massaniya ḍurru wa anta arhamur-raḥimeen.

Translation: Indeed, adversity has touched me, and You are the Most Merciful of the merciful.
