السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمْ أَهْلَ الدِّيَارِ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُسْلِمِينَ وَإِنَّا إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ لَلَاحِقُونَ أَسْأَلُ اللَّهَ لَنَا وَلَكُمْ الْعَافِيَةَ
Dua for visiting graveyar in English: As-salāmu ‘alaykum ahl ad-diyār min al-mu’minīn wa al-muslimīn wa innā in shā’ Allāh la-lāḥiqūn, as’alu Allāha lanā wa lakum al-‘āfiyah.
Translation: Peace be upon you, the inhabitants of the city, among the believers, and Muslims, and God willing we shall join you. I beg of Allah peace for us and for you.
Hadith: Sulaiman b. Buraida narrated on the authority of his father that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) used to teach them when they went out to the graveyard. One of the narrators used to say this in the narration transmitted on the authority of Abu Bakr: ” Peace be upon the inhabitants of the city (i. e. graveyard).” In the hadith transmitted by Zuhair (the words are):” Peace be upon you, the inhabitants of the city, among the believers, and Muslims, and God willing we shall join you. I beg of Allah peace for us and for you.” —Sahih Muslim 975
Explanation: The Holy Prophet (PBUH) taught his companions to pay salam to the dead whenever they visited the graveyard. In the second part of this dua for entering the graveyard, the Holy Prophet (PBUH) said Inshallah, we will join the dead and then asked for Allah’s mercy for the dead and the ones who are about to join them.
Visiting the graveyard is the best way to remember death, which is inevitable. Therefore, we should leave what’s forbidden and follow the Quran and the teachings of the Holy Prophet (PBUH).

Is there a Dua for Entering a Graveyard in the Quran?
There is no dua for visiting the graveyard mentioned in the Quran. However, if you hear the news of someone’s dismissal, recite “Inna lillahi Wa Inallah-e-Raji’oon.”
Inna lillahi Wa Inallah-e-Raji’oon is mentioend in the Quran in Surah Al-Baqrah Verse 156. This dua has been mentioned in many Hadiths and widely recited by Muslims upon hearing about the death.
