Praying five times a day is a fundamental duty for every practicing Muslim, and what better place to offer prayers than in the Masjid (Mosque)? While many of us strive to offer daily prayers in the Mosque, how many are familiar with the Dua for entering the Masjid?
The number may be relatively low, but it can increase as more people become aware and continue learning about religious practices. In this blog, we will discuss the best Dua for entering the Masjid, as well as the Duas for going to and leaving the Masjid.
Why pray Salah in Mosque?
Before diving into the Duas for entering and leaving the mosque, let’s first discuss why it is important to observe Salah in the mosque.
The answer lies in the fact that the reward for offering Salah in the mosque is multiplied many times compared to praying at home.
We have checked several Hadiths and found that a Salah observed in the mosque is rewarded multiplefold compared to the one observed at home. Therefore, it is unwise to leave the opportunity of collecting rewards.
Here is a Hadith on the rewards of going to a mosque.
Anas b. Malik reported God’s Messenger (PBUH) as saying, “A man’s prayer in his house is equivalent to a single observance of prayer, his prayer in a tribal mosque is equivalent to twenty-five, his prayer in a mosque in which the Friday prayer is observed is equivalent to five hundred, his prayer in the Aqsa mosque is equivalent to fifty thousand, his prayer in my mosque is equivalent to fifty thousand, and his prayer in the sacred mosque (the Ka’ba) is equivalent to a hundred thousand.” —Mishkat al-Masabih 752
The Hadith clearly mentions that the reward for praying in the mosque multiplies in comparison with praying at home. Without further ado, let’s see the best dua for entering the mosque.
Dua for Entering Mosque from Hadith
In Islam, there is a dua for doing almost everything, and a dua adds Allah’s mercy and blessings. Here is a dua for entering the mosque.
اللَّهُمَّ افْتَحْ لِي أَبْوَابَ رَحْمَتِكَ. وَإِذَا خَرَجَ فَلْيَقُلِ: الله إِنِّي أَسأَلك من فضلك
Dua for entering mosque English transliteration: Allahumma iftah li abwaba rahmatika. Wa idha kharaja falyakul: Allahumma inni as’aluka min fadlik.
English translation: O God, open to me the gates of Thy mercy, “and when he goes out he should say “O God, I ask Thee out of Thine abundance.
Hadith: Abu Usaid reported God’s Messenger (PBUH) as saying: When any of you enters the mosque, he should say, “O God, open to me the gates of Thy mercy, “and when he goes out, he should say, “O God, I ask Thee out of Thine abundance.” —Mishkat al-Masabih 703
Explanation: The Hadith teaches that the Holy Prophet (PBUH) has prescribed that we ask Allah’s forgiveness whenever we enter a mosque. You can ask for Allah’s mercy by reciting this dua for entering the masjid and then reciting the 5th Kalma—Astagfar.
This dua can be confirmed by another Hadith published in Sunan Abi Dawud. The Hadith is exactly the same, with the slight difference of invoking blessings on the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and then reciting the dua to enter the masjid.
Hadith: Abu Usaid al-Ansari reported the Messenger of Allah (May peace be upon him) as saying: when any of you enters the mosque he should invoke blessing on the prophet (PBUH) and then he should say: O Allah, open to me the gates of thy mercy. And when he goes out, he should say: O Allah, I ask thee out of Thine abundance. — Sunan Abi Dawud 465
سَلِّمْ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم — اللَّهُمَّ افْتَحْ لِي أَبْوَابَ رَحْمَتِ
English transliteration: Sallim ‘ala an-nabiyyi (PBUH) — Allahumma iftah li abwaba rahmatika.
