Before explaining the Dua after Wudu, let’s understand what Dua and Wudu are. A Dua is a supplication to Allah to gain his blessings and mercy. It is the best way to get closer to Allah and purify the soul.
On the other hand, Wudu is a way to clean our bodies. Wudu is a must before Salat and Tawaf. Combining the two creates a unique package that cleans our souls and bodies at the same time.
This blog will discuss everything related to the Dua after Wudu and before it. We will also provide relevant Hadith and Quranic verses.
What is the Dua after Wudu?
Wudu is an act of worship that enables us to perform Salat and Tafaf, two of the most significant rituals in Islam. Wudu is a way to get closer to Allah; cleanliness is half of faith. —Sahih Muslim 223
As far as the Dua after Wudu is concerned. There are two duas recited after Wudu. Our Holy Prophet (PBUH) did this, and we should follow him. Here are the duas we should recite after performing Wudu.
Dua after Wudu in English transliteration: Ashhadu an la ilaha illallah, wahdahu la sharika lahu, wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan-abduhu wa rasuluhu, Allahummajalni minat tawwabin, waj’alni minal mutatahhirin.
Dua after Wudu English translation: I testify that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah Alone, there are no partners for Him. And I testify that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger. O Allah! Make me among the repentant, and make me among those who purify themselves.
Dua after Wudu Hadith: Umar bin Al-Khattab narrated that: Allah’s Messenger said: ‘Whoever performs Wudu, making Wudu well, then says: (Ashhadu an la ilaha illallah, wahdahu la sharika lahu, wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan-abduhu wa rasuluhu, Allahummajalni minat tawwabin, waj’alni minal mutatahhirin) ‘I testify that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah Alone, there are no partners for Him. And I testify that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger. O Allah! Make me among the repentant, and make me among those who purify themselves.’ Then eight gates of Paradise are opened for him, that may enter by whichever of them wishes.” —Jami` at-Tirmidhi 55
Explanation: If you read the translation of the Dua for Wudu, you will see how closely it resembles several Quranic verses, the message of Islam, and the 2nd and 5th Kalma. The Dua after Wudu does not have a new message but the same things mentioned in the Quran and Hadiths.
After reading the Wudu dua, we testify to Allah that he is the only deity to be worshiped, and Muhammad (PBUH) is his last messenger. In the second part, we ask Allah for forgiveness and mercy. We also beg Allah to help us avoid sins and purify ourselves.
This dua has a powerful message and will add its positive effects if recited after performing Wudu.
Second Dua after Wudu
The second Dua for Wudu is also recited by the Prophet (PBUH) and confirmed by many individuals.
English transliteration: Subḥānaka Allāhumma wa biḥamdika, ‘ash-hadu ‘an lā ‘ilāha ‘illā ‘Anta, ‘astaghfiruka wa ‘atūbu ‘ilayk.
English translation: Glory is to You, O Allah, and praise; I bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but You. I seek Your forgiveness and turn to You in repentance.
Hadith: Subḥānaka Allāhumma wa biḥamdika, ‘ash-hadu ‘an lā ‘ilāha ‘illā ‘Anta, ‘astaghfiruka wa ‘atūbu ‘ilayk. (Upon completing the ablution) —Hisn al-Muslim 15

Dua before Wudu
We have checked several Hadith books to find what the Prophet (PBUH) do before Wudu or if there is a dua he recited before performing Wudu. There isnt any specific Dua before Wudu but only Bismillah.
The Holy Prophet (PBUH) said that one should mention Allah before ablution. That means we should start doing Wudu with Bismillah.
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ
English transliteration: Bismillah
English translation: In the name of Allah
Hadith: It was narrated that Abu Sa’eed bin Zaid said: “The Messenger of Allah said: ‘There is no prayer for one who does not have ablution, and there is no ablution for one who does not mention the Name of Allah (before it).'”—Sunan Ibn Majah 398
Explanation: Reciting Bismillah adds Allah’s blessings and mercy to anything. The Holy Prophet mentioned in this Hadith that your Wudu will be more powerful if you start it with the name of Allah.
Is there a Dua during Wudu?
There is a misconception that the Holy Prophet (PBUH) recited a dua when performing Wudu. Some say he recited a dua when he touched his face in the Wudu.
