Dua for Jumma

Jummah is considered the best day of the week in Islam and is a holiday in several Muslim countries like Saudi Arabia, UAE, and African countries. The day is so special that it has a separate Salat called Jummah Salah or Salat-ul-Jummah.

Muslims gather in high numbers in mosques to attend the Friday sermon and prayer. Friday, Salah replaces Zuhr Salah and is two rakat instead of four. This blog will discuss the best dua for Jummah, its significance, and how you can benefit from it.

Best Dua for Jumma Mubarak

There is no specific dua recited by the Holy Prophet (PBUH) on Friday. However, he advised Muslims to ask Allah’s forgiveness and mercy on Friday because there is a special time on Friday when supplications are accepted.

Hadith: Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said while talking about the merits of Friday, “There is a time on Friday at which a Muslim, while he (or she) is performing Salat and is supplicating, will be granted whatever he (or she) is supplicating for.” And he (PBUH) pointed with his hand to indicate that this period of time is very short. —Riyad as-Salihin 1156

The Holy Prophet (PBUH) didn’t mention the special time of the acceptance of dua. Therefore, we should ask for Allah’s mercy and blessings for the whole day and night.

The Quran orders the believers to leave everything and come to mosques when adhan of Friday is called. They should pray the Friday prayer and then go back to their businesses, jobs, lands, etc.

O believers! When the call to prayer is made on Friday, then proceed ˹diligently˺ to the remembrance of Allah and leave off ˹your˺ business. That would be best for you if you had known. —Surah Al-Jumu’ah Verse 9

With that being said, here are the best dua for Jummah (Supplication for Friday)

Durood Sharif| Durood-e-Ibrahim

The Holy Prophet (PBUH) asked the believers to supplicate for him on Friday. He can see the Muslims supporting him.

Hadith: Aus bin Aus (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, “Among the best of your days is Friday; so supplicate Allah more often for me in it , for your supplications will be displayed to me.” He was asked: “O Messenger of Allah! How will our blessings be displayed to you when your decayed body will have mixed with the earth?” He (PBUH) replied, “Allah has prohibited the earth from consuming the bodies of the Prophets.” —Riyad as-Salihin 1399

Durood e Ibrahim is not from the Holy Quran or Hadith. But from the love of Muslims for the final Messenger (PBUH). This is the best dua we can recite of Friday.

What is the best time for dua on Jummah Mubarak?

Friday is the day of blessings, and we should utilize the complete day praying and supplicating for the Holy Prophet (PBUH), ourselves, our family, and the Muslim Ummah.

Not all of us can spend the whole day supplicating due to business, jobs, and daily life routines. Make your dua for Jummah Mubarak when the imam is sitting at the minbar until the Friday Salah ends.

Hadith: Abu Burdah b. Abl Musa al-Asha’ri said: ‘Abd Allah b. ‘Umar said to me: Did you hear your father narrating a tradition from the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) about an hour on Friday (when Allah accepts supplication)? I said: Yes, I heard it. I heard the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) say: This hour is found during the period when the imam is seated (for giving Friday sermon) until the prayer is finished.  Abu Dawud said: By sitting is meant sitting on the pulpit. —Sunan Abi Dawud 1049

What else can you do on Friday?

Friday is considered a special day of the week, and we should follow the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet (PBUH). Here is what the Holy Prophet (PBUH) did on Friday.

Taking a Bath on Friday

A Muslim must take a Bath and perform Gusul on Friday. Taking a bath on Firday was practiced by the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and mentioned in several Hadihts.

Narrated `Abdullah bin `Umar: Allah’s Messenger (PBUH) said, “Anyone of you attending the Friday (prayers) should take a bath.” —Sahih al-Bukhari 877

Using Siwak to Clean Mouth

Taking a bath and cleaning your teeth with Siwak is compulsory for every Muslim who has reached puberty.

Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah’s Messenger (PBUH) said, “If I had not found it hard for my followers or the people, I would have ordered them to clean their teeth with Siwak for every prayer.” —Sahih al-Bukhari 887

Use of Perfume

A Muslim must dress neatly and use perfume before going to the Friday prayer.

Hadith: Narrated Abu Sa`id: I testify that Allah’s Messenger (PBUH) said, “The taking of a bath on Friday is compulsory for every male Muslim who has attained the age of puberty and (also) the cleaning of his teeth with Siwak, and the using of perfume if it is available.” `Amr (a sub-narrator) said, “I confirm that the taking of a bath is compulsory, but as for the Siwak and the using of perfume, Allah knows better whether it is obligatory or not, but according to the Hadith it is as above.”) —Sahih al-Bukhari 880

Cut your nails

The Holy Prophet (PBUH) advised to cut nails and trim the mustache. We should cut our nails on Friday before going to prayer.

Five are the acts of fitra: circumcision, removing the pubes, clipping the mustache, cutting the nails, and plucking the hair under the armpits. —Sahih Muslim 257b

Going Early to Prayer

We should go for the Friday prayer as early as possible. Here is the Hadith defining the benefits of going early to Friday prayer.

Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah’s Messenger (PBUH) said, “Any person who takes a bath on Friday like the bath of Janaba and then goes for the prayer (in the first hour i.e. early), it is as if he had sacrificed a camel (in Allah’s cause); and whoever goes in the second hour it is as if he had sacrificed a cow; and whoever goes in the third hour, then it is as if he had sacrificed a horned ram; and if one goes in the fourth hour, then it is as if he had sacrificed a hen; and whoever goes in the fifth hour then it is as if he had offered an egg. When the Imam comes out (i.e. starts delivering the Khutba), the angels present themselves to listen to the Khutba.” —Sahih al-Bukhari 881

Going to the Mosque to offer Friday Salah

The Friday Salah is compulsory for every Muslim. Men are ordered to offer this Salah in the mosque, while women can offer it at home. A person who takes a bath on Friday goes to the mosque and doesn’t separate two Muslims sitting together in order to get in the front row.

Listen to the Friday sermon and prays as much as he can on Friday, his sins till the previous Friday are washed. For more details check Sahih al-Bukhari 883. We should also recite the dua for entering masjid every time we go to a mosque.

What to recite on Friday?

Muslims from around the world recite Surah Al-Kahaf on Friday before Magrib Salah. We should also recite ‘Alif, Lam, Mim, Tanzil’, and ‘Hal-ata-ala-l-Insani’ after the Fajr Salah.

After Fajr on Friday

Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet (PBUH) used to recite the following in the Fajr prayer of Friday, “Alif, Lam, Mim, Tanzil” (Suratas- Sajda #32) and “Hal-ata-ala-l-Insani” (i.e. Surah-Al-Insan #76). —Sahih al-Bukhari 891

We should follow the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet and recite Surah As-Sajdah and Surah Al-Inshan after the Fajr Salah on Friday.

After Friday Salah — Surah Al-Kahf

The Hadith mentions that the person who recites Surah Al-Kahf on Friday night will benefit from its light until the next Friday. Friday night here means the night of Thursday because a new day starts at Magrib in Islam.

Hadith: Abū Sa’id reported the Prophet as saying, “If anyone recites sūra al-Kahf (Qur’ān, 18) on Friday, the light will shine brightly for him till the next Friday.” —Mishkat al-Masabih 2175
