We should always be thankful to Allah (SWT) for everything he has given us. What can we do if he didn’t give us what we have today? And what can we do if he decides to take back his blessings? Nothing!

Therefore, no matter how hard things get in life, we should always thank Allah for his blessings and mercy. However, we should always ask him for more blessings by reciting the dua for success, dua for debt relief, or dua for a good day.

In this blog, we will discuss the best dua for thanking Allah (SWT), how to recite it, the benefits of reciting dua, and when is the best time to recite it.

Best dua to thank Allah (SWT)

The best dua to thank Allah for his blessings is saying Alhamdulillah as many times as possible.

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ

English transliteration: Alhamdulillah

Translation: Praise be to Allah

Hadith: The prophet used to say Alhamdulillah after finishing the meal. The exact hadith is “Whenever the dining sheet of the Prophet (PBUH) was taken away (i.e., whenever he finished his meal), he used to say: ‘Al-hamdu li l-lah kathiran taiyiban mubarakan fihi ghaira makfiy wala muWada` wala mustaghna’anhu Rabbuna.'” (Sahih Al-Bukhari 5458)

Surah: If you’ve read the Quran, you might be familiar with the phrase “Alhamdulillah.” This is because the very first verse of the Quran, from Surah Al-Fatihah, begins with “Alhamdu Lillahi Rabbil Alamin,” which translates to “All praise is due to Allah, Lord of all worlds” (Surah Al-Fatihah, Verse 1).

Alhamdulillah is the best way to thank Allah for his blessings and mercy. We have created an extensive guide defining the meaning and benefits of Alhamdulillah.

Dua for Thanking Allah (Extension)

Dua for Thanking Allah

We also have an extended version of Alhamdulillah, mentioned in Hadiths.

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي بِنِعْمَتِهِ تَتِمُّ الصَّالِحَاتِ

Dua to thanks Allah in English: Alhamdulillah il-lazi bi ni’matihi tatimu as-salihat

Translation: All praise belongs to Allah, through whose grace good deeds are accomplished.

Hadith: When something happened that pleased him, the Prophet (PBUH) used to say: Alḥamdu lillāhi ‘lladhi bi ni`matihi tatimmuṣ-ṣāliḥāt. And if something happened that displeased him, he used to say: Alḥamdu lillāhi `alā kulli ḥāl. —Hisn al-Muslim 218

Explanation: The Holy Prophet (PBUH) thanked Allah when he was pleased and displeased. That is what we have mentioned in the introduction of this blog that we should always be thankful to Allah for his blessings and virtues. However, a Muslim who is facing hardships, displeasures, etc, should recite the dua for forgiveness, dua for pain, etc, to invoke Allah’s blessings.

How to thank Allah with Dua?

Thank You Allah Dua

The following supplication is another way to thank Allah (SWT) for his blessings and mercy. Muslims also use this dua as a Morning dua or dua after waking up.

Hadith: `Ubadah bin As-Samit, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated that: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Whoever wakes up in the night and says, Lā ilāha illallāh, waḥdahu lā sharīka lahu, lahul-mulku wa lahul-ḥamdu, wa huwa `alā kulli shai’in qadīr. Wa subḥān Allah, walḥamdulillāh, wa lā ilāha illallāh, wa Allāhu akbar, wa lā ḥawla wa lā quwwata illā billāh.)’ – then he said: ‘O my Lord, forgive me (Rabbighfirlī)’ – or he said – ‘then he supplicates, he shall be responded to. So he makes a firm determination, then performs Wudu’, then he performs Salat, his Salat shall be accepted.” —Jami` at-Tirmidhi 3414
