1. تَبَـٰرَكَ ٱلَّذِى بِيَدِهِ ٱلْمُلْكُ وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍۢ قَدِيرٌۭ

Transliteration:
Tabāraka-l-ladhī biyadihi-l-mulku wa-huwa ‘alā kulli shay’in qadīr
Translation:
Blessed is He in whose hand is dominion, and He is over all things competent.

2. ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ ٱلْمَوْتَ وَٱلْحَيَوٰةَ لِيَبْلُوَكُمْ أَيُّكُمْ أَحْسَنُ عَمَلًۭا ۚ وَهُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْغَفُورُ

Transliteration:
Al-ladhī khalaqa-l-mawta wa-l-ḥayāta li-yabluwakum ayyukum aḥsanu ‘amala, wa-huwa-l-‘Azīzu-l-Ghafūr
Translation:
[He] who created death and life to test you [as to] which of you is best in deed—and He is the Exalted in Might, the Forgiving.

3. ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ سَبْعَ سَمَـٰوَٰتٍۢ طِبَاقًۭا ۖ مَّا تَرَىٰ فِى خَلْقِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ مِن تَفَـٰوُتٍۢ ۖ فَٱرْجِعِ ٱلْبَصَرَ هَلْ تَرَىٰ مِن فُطُورٍۢ

Transliteration:
Al-ladhī khalaqa sab‘a samāwātin ṭibāqan, mā tarā fī khalqi-r-Raḥmāni min tafāwutin fa-rji‘i-l-baṣara hal tarā min fuṭūr
Translation:
[And] who created seven heavens in layers. You do not see in the creation of the Most Merciful any inconsistency. So return your vision to the sky, do you see any breaks?

4. ثُمَّ ٱرْجِعِ ٱلْبَصَرَ كَرَّتَيْنِ يَنقَلِبْ إِلَيْكَ ٱلْبَصَرُ خَاسِئًۭا وَهُوَ حَسِيرٌۭ

Transliteration:
Thumma-rji‘i-l-baṣara karratayn yanqalib ilayka-l-baṣaru khāsi’an wa-huwa ḥasīr
Translation:
Then return your vision twice again. Your vision will return to you humbled while it is fatigued.

5. وَلَقَدْ زَيَّنَّا ٱلسَّمَآءَ ٱلدُّنْيَا بِمَصَـٰبِيحَ وَجَعَلْنَـٰهَا رُجُومًۭا لِّلشَّيَـٰطِينِ ۖ وَأَعْتَدْنَا لَهُمْ عَذَابَ ٱلسَّعِيرِ

Transliteration:
Wa-laqad zayyannā-s-samā’a-d-dunyā bi-maṣābīḥa wa-ja‘alnāhā rujūman li-sh-shayāṭīn wa-a‘tadnā lahum ‘adhāba-s-sa‘īr
Translation:
And We have certainly beautified the nearest heaven with lamps [stars] and have made them what is thrown at the devils, and We have prepared for them the punishment of the Blaze.

6. وَلِلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ بِرَبِّهِمْ عَذَابُ جَهَنَّمَ ۖ وَبِئْسَ ٱلْمَصِيرُ

Transliteration:
Wa-lilladhīna kafarū bi-rabbihim ‘adhābu jahannam wa-bi’sa-l-maṣīr
Translation:
And for those who disbelieved in their Lord is the punishment of Hell, and wretched is the destination.

7. إِذَآ أُلْقُوا۟ فِيهَا سَمِعُوا۟ لَهَا شَهِيقًۭا وَهِىَ تَفُورُ

Transliteration:
Idhā ulqū fīhā sami‘ū lahā shahīqan wa-hiya tafūr
Translation:
When they are thrown into it, they hear from it a [dreadful] inhaling while it boils up.

8. تَكَادُ تَمَيَّزُ مِنَ ٱلْغَيْظِ ۖ كُلَّمَآ أُلْقِىَ فِيهَا فَوْجٌۭ سَأَلَهُمْ خَزَنَتُهَآ أَلَمْ يَأْتِكُمْ نَذِيرٌۭ

Transliteration:
Takādu tamayyazu mina-l-ghayẓ kullamā ulqiya fīhā fawjun sa’alahum khazanatuhā a-lam ya’tikum nadhīr
Translation:
It almost bursts with rage. Every time a company is thrown into it, its keepers will ask them, “Did there not come to you a warner?”

9. قَالُوا۟ بَلَىٰ قَدْ جَآءَنَا نَذِيرٌۭ فَكَذَّبْنَا وَقُلْنَا مَا نَزَّلَ ٱللَّهُ مِن شَىْءٍ إِنْ أَنتُمْ إِلَّا فِى ضَلَـٰلٍۢ كَبِيرٍۢ

Transliteration:
Qālū balā qad jā’anā nadhīrun fa-kadhdhabnā wa-qulnā mā nazzala-llāhu min shay’in in antum illā fī ḍalālin kabīr
Translation:
They will say, “Yes, a warner had come to us, but we denied and said, ‘Allah has not sent down anything. You are not but in great error.'”

10. وَقَالُوا۟ لَوْ كُنَّا نَسْمَعُ أَوْ نَعْقِلُ مَا كُنَّا فِىٓ أَصْحَـٰبِ ٱلسَّعِيرِ

Transliteration:
Wa-qālū law kunnā nasma‘u aw na‘qilu mā kunnā fī aṣḥābi-s-sa‘īr
Translation:
And they will say, “If only we had been listening or reasoning, we would not be among the companions of the Blaze.”

11. فَٱعْتَرَفُوا۟ بِذَنۢبِهِمْ فَسُحْقًۭا لِّأَصْحَـٰبِ ٱلسَّعِيرِ

Transliteration:
Fa‘tarafū bi-dhanbihim fa-suḥqan li-aṣḥābi-s-sa‘īr
Translation:
And they will admit their sin, so [it is] alienation for the companions of the Blaze.

12. إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يَخْشَوْنَ رَبَّهُم بِٱلْغَيْبِ لَهُم مَّغْفِرَةٌۭ وَأَجْرٌۭ كَبِيرٌۭ

Transliteration:
Inna-l-ladhīna yakhshawna rabbahum bi-l-ghaybi lahum maghfiratun wa-ajrun kabīr
Translation:
Indeed, those who fear their Lord unseen will have forgiveness and great reward.

13. وَأَسِرُّوا۟ قَوْلَكُمْ أَوِ ٱجْهَرُوا۟ بِهِۦٓ ۖ إِنَّهُۥ عَلِيمٌۢ بِذَاتِ ٱلصُّدُورِ

Transliteration:
Wa-asirrū qawlakum aw ij’harū bihi inna-hu ‘alīmun bi-dhāti-ṣ-ṣudūr
Translation:
And conceal your speech or publicize it; indeed, He is Knowing of that within the breasts.

14. أَلَا يَعْلَمُ مَنْ خَلَقَ وَهُوَ ٱللَّطِيفُ ٱلْخَبِيرُ

Transliteration:
A-lā ya‘lamu man khalaqa wa-huwa-l-Laṭīfu-l-Khabīr
Translation:
Does He who created not know, while He is the Subtle, the Acquainted?

15. هُوَ ٱلَّذِى جَعَلَ لَكُمُ ٱلْأَرْضَ ذَلُولًۭا فَٱمْشُوا۟ فِى مَنَاكِبِهَا وَكُلُوا۟ مِن رِّزْقِهِۦ ۖ وَإِلَيْهِ ٱلنُّشُورُ

Transliteration:
Huwa-l-ladhī ja‘ala lakumu-l-arḍa dhalūlan fa-mshū fī manākibihā wa-kulū min rizqihi wa-ilayhi-n-nushūr
Translation:
It is He who made the earth tame for you—so walk among its slopes and eat of His provision—and to Him is the resurrection.

16. ءَأَمِنتُم مَّن فِى ٱلسَّمَآءِ أَن يَخْسِفَ بِكُمُ ٱلْأَرْضَ فَإِذَا هِىَ تَمُورُ

Transliteration:
A-amintum man fī-s-samā’i an yakhṣifa bikumu-l-arḍa fa-idhā hiya tamūr
Translation:
Do you feel secure that He who [holds authority] in the heaven would not cause the earth to swallow you and suddenly it would sway?

17. أَمْ أَمِنتُم مَّن فِى ٱلسَّمَآءِ أَن يُرْسِلَ عَلَيْكُمْ حَاصِبًۭا ۖ فَسَتَعْلَمُونَ كَيْفَ نَذِيرِ

Transliteration:
Am amintum man fī-s-samā’i an yursila ‘alaykum ḥāṣiban fa-sata‘lamūna kayfa nadhīr
Translation:
Or do you feel secure that He who [holds authority] in the heaven would not send against you a storm of stones? Then you would know how [severe] was My warning.

18. وَلَقَدْ كَذَّبَ ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ فَكَيْفَ كَانَ نَكِيرِ

Transliteration:
Wa-laqad kadhdhaba-l-ladhīna min qablihim fa-kayfa kāna nakīr
Translation:
And already had those before them denied, and how [terrible] was My reproach.

19. أَوَلَمْ يَرَوْا۟ إِلَى ٱلطَّيْرِ فَوْقَهُمْ صَـٰٓفَّـٰتٍۢ وَيَقْبِضْنَ ۚ مَا يُمْسِكُهُنَّ إِلَّا ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ بِكُلِّ شَىْءٍۢ بَصِيرٌ

Transliteration:
Awa-lam yaraw ilā-ṭ-ṭayri fawqahum ṣāffātin wa-yaqbiḍna mā yumsikuhunna illā-r-Raḥmān, innahu bi-kulli shay’in baṣīr
Translation:
Do they not see the birds above them with wings spread and [sometimes] folded in? None holds them [aloft] except the Most Merciful. Indeed, He is, of all things, Seeing.

20. أَمَّنْ هَـٰذَا ٱلَّذِى هُوَ جُندٌۭ لَّكُمْ يَنصُرُكُم مِّن دُونِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ۚ إِنِ ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ إِلَّا فِى غُرُورٍ

Transliteration:
Amman hādhā-l-ladhī huwa jundun lakum yanṣurukum min dūni-r-Raḥmān in-l-kāfirūna illā fī ghurūr
Translation:
Or who is it that could be an army for you to aid you other than the Most Merciful? The disbelievers are not but in delusion.

21. أَمَّنْ هَـٰذَا ٱلَّذِى يَرْزُقُكُمْ إِنْ أَمْسَكَ رِزْقَهُۥ ۚ بَل لَّجُّوا۟ فِى عُتُوٍّۢ وَنُفُورٍ

Transliteration:
Amman hādhā-l-ladhī yarzuqukum in amsaka rizqah bal lajjū fī ‘utūwwin wa-nufūr
Translation:
Or who is it that could provide for you if He withheld His provision? But they have persisted in insolence and aversion.

22. أَفَمَن يَمْشِى مُكِبًّا عَلَىٰ وَجْهِهِۦٓ أَهْدَىٰٓ أَمَّن يَمْشِى سَوِيًّا عَلَىٰ صِرَٰطٍۢ مُّسْتَقِيمٍۢ

Transliteration:
Afa-man yamshī mukibban ‘alā wajhihi ahdā amman yamshī sawiyyan ‘alā ṣirāṭin mustaqīm
Translation:
Then is one who walks fallen on his face better guided or one who walks erect on a straight path?

23. قُلْ هُوَ ٱلَّذِىٓ أَنشَأَكُمْ وَجَعَلَ لَكُمُ ٱلسَّمْعَ وَٱلْأَبْصَـٰرَ وَٱلْأَفْـِٔدَةَ ۖ قَلِيلًۭا مَّا تَشْكُرُونَ

Transliteration:
Qul huwa-l-ladhī ansha’akum wa-ja‘ala lakumu-s-sam‘a wa-l-abṣāra wa-l-af’idah qalīlan mā tashkurūn
Translation:
Say, “It is He who produced you and made for you hearing and vision and hearts; little are you grateful.”

24. قُلْ هُوَ ٱلَّذِى ذَرَأَكُمْ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَإِلَيْهِ تُحْشَرُونَ

Transliteration:
Qul huwa-l-ladhī dhara’akum fī-l-arḍ wa-ilayhi tuḥsharūn
Translation:
Say, “It is He who has multiplied you throughout the earth, and to Him you will be gathered.”

25. وَيَقُولُونَ مَتَىٰ هَـٰذَا ٱلْوَعْدُ إِن كُنتُمْ صَـٰدِقِينَ

Transliteration:
Wa-yaqūlūna matā hādhā-l-wa‘du in kuntum ṣādiqīn
Translation:
And they say, “When is this promise, if you should be truthful?”

26. قُلْ إِنَّمَا ٱلْعِلْمُ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ وَإِنَّمَآ أَنَا۠ نَذِيرٌۭ مُّبِينٌۭ

Transliteration:
Qul innamā-l-‘ilmu ‘inda-llāhi wa-innamā anā nadhīrun mubīn
Translation:
Say, “The knowledge is only with Allah, and I am only a clear warner.”

27. فَلَمَّا رَأَوْهُ زُلْفَةًۭ سِيٓـَٔتْ وُجُوهُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ وَقِيلَ هَـٰذَا ٱلَّذِى كُنتُم بِهِۦ تَدَّعُونَ

Transliteration:
Fa-lammā ra’awhu zulfa si’at wujūhu-l-ladhīna kafarū wa-qīla hādhā-l-ladhī kuntum bihi tadda‘ūn
Translation:
But when they see it approaching, the faces of those who disbelieve will be distressed, and it will be said, “This is what you used to claim.”

28. قُلْ أَرَءَيْتُمْ إِنْ أَهْلَكَنِىَ ٱللَّهُ وَمَن مَّعِىَ أَوْ رَحِمَنَا فَمَن يُجِيرُ ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ مِنْ عَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍۢ

Transliteration:
Qul ara’aytum in ahlakani-llāhu wa-man ma‘ī aw raḥimanā fa-man yujīru-l-kāfirīna min ‘adhābin alīm
Translation:
Say, “Have you considered: whether Allah should cause me and those with me to perish or have mercy upon us, who can protect the disbelievers from a painful punishment?”

29. قُلْ هُوَ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ ءَامَنَّا بِهِۦ وَعَلَيْهِ تَوَكَّلْنَا ۖ فَسَتَعْلَمُونَ مَنْ هُوَ فِى ضَلَـٰلٍۢ مُّبِينٍۢ

Transliteration:
Qul huwa-r-Raḥmān āmannā bihi wa-‘alayhi tawakkalnā fa-sata‘lamūna man huwa fī ḍalālin mubīn
Translation:
Say, “He is the Most Merciful; we have believed in Him, and upon Him we have relied. And you will come to know who it is that is in clear error.”

30. قُلْ أَرَءَيْتُمْ إِنْ أَصْبَحَ مَآؤُكُمْ غَوْرًۭا فَمَن يَأْتِيكُم بِمَآءٍۢ مَّعِينٍۭ

Transliteration:
Qul ara’aytum in aṣbaḥa mā’ukum ghawran fa-man ya’tīkum bi-mā’in ma‘īn
Translation:
Say, “Have you considered: if your water was to become sunken [into the earth], then who could bring you flowing water?”

Benefits of reciting Surah Al-Mulk from Hadiths

The recitation of Surah Mulk has immense benefits for the reciter. That is the reason it’s one of the most recited surahs of the Holy Quran after short surahs like An-Nas and Al-Falaq.

Here are a few benefits of reciting Surah Mulk from Hadiths.

1- Dua for Forgiveness

Surah Mulk is one of the best dua for forgiveness and will intervene for a man until he is forgiven. Muslims can recite Surah Mulk and seek Allah’s forgiveness anytime, especially on Friday. This Surah can also be recited during Ramadan to seek forgiveness as a dua for Laylatul Qadr.

Hadith: Abu Hurairah (RA) said that the Prophet (PBUH) said: “Indeed there is a Surah in the Qur’an of thirty Ayat, which intercedes for a man until he is forgiven. It is [Surah] Tabarak Alladhi Biyadihil-Mulk.” —Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2891

Escape punishment of the Grave

The recitation of Surah al Mulk can save a Muslim from the punishment of the Grave. We should make it a habit to recite Surah Mulk in Arabic or English.

Hadith: Abdullāh Ibn Masʿūd (RA) reports that the Prophet ﷺ said: “Sūrat Tabārak (Sūrat al-Mulk) prevents the punishment of the grave.” —Ṣaḥīḥ al-Jāmi’ no. 1140, Ibn Mardawayh.

In another Hadith it is mentioned that Surah al-Mulk will defend the reciter from the ward of angle of punishment in the grave. Here is the best dua to visit graveyards.

Hadith: Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn Mas’ud (RA) said: “[Angels of punishment] will come to a person by his leg side, and they will say, ‘There is no way to him through us, he would recite Surah Mulk.’ They will then go to his belly  which will say, ‘There is no way to him through me, he had memorised Surah Mulk.’ They will then go to his head which will say, ‘There is no way to him through us, he would recite Surah Mulk.’ Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn Mas’ud (radiyallahu ‘anhu) then said, ‘[Surah Mulk] is the defender, it defends against the punishment of the grave. It is also in the Tawrah. This is Surah Mulk, whomsoever recited it an night has done well and abundant.

Before sleeping

It is narrated in three Hadith books that the Holy Propeht (PBUH) recited Surah Mulk before going to sleep. However, the Hadith is marked Da’if, which means it is weak in chain, but we can not eliminate it.

Hadith: Jābir ibn Abdullāh reports that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) would not sleep until He had recited Sūrah as-Sajdah (32) and Sūrah al-Mulk (67). —Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2892; ; Al-Adab al-Mufrad 1209; Sunan ad-Dārimī 3316.

Prophet’s (PBUH) wish

The Holy Prophet (PBUH) wished that Surah Mulk should be recited and memorized by his Ummah.

Hadith: Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “I wish that it was in the heart of every person of my Ummah, i.e. Surah Mulk and Surah Yaseen.
